Dr. Amritpal Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, Guru Nanak Dev University, also SICI's SICRG awardee, received the prestigious Science & Technology Award for Research (STAR) from Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) for her contribution in carrying out research projects in the field of Food Technology. SERB instituted this award to recognise and reward outstanding performance of principal investigators of SERB projects.

While its services & operations have expanded, the underlying principles of the Institute have remained constant. Founded in 1968 through a mutual proclamation of the Governments of Canada and India, the Institute was named after Sh. Lal Bahadur Shastri, one of the most prominent and dynamic Prime Ministers India.
